Prior to suing FindTheBest, Lumen View Technology was able to successfully extortion quick payoffs for $50,000 from these small businesses for the patent they held for "System and Method for Facilitating Bilateral and Multilateral Decision-Making."
Due to his previous financial success, O'Connor decided to fight instead of rolling over when the demand letters were served. He pledged up to $1 million of his own fortune to stand up against Lumen View. With approximately $350,000 invested in legal fees, Lumen View was finally faced with a determined opponent. A judge overturned the "decision-making" patent and O'Connor was also the first patent troll defendant to be awarded attorneys' fees.
